as cheeks pointed out on our last post, i caught the cupcake craze; not baking them, but eating them! one of my classic favorites in town is take the cake in northside. their pumpkin carrot cupcake alone was enough for me to leave work early, and drive 20 miles south to make it to their shop before closing time. now a new kid in town is calling my name.
(above L: open to serve you; above R: gluten-free vanilla, vegan lemon-raspberry and coconut lime cupcakes)
our friend S recommended that cheeks and i add sugar cupcakery on our foods list when she heard that the shop was going to be featured in food network’s cupcake wars. that was early this year and it wasn’t until recently that we decided to check it out.
located in the old town of milford, sugar cupcakery occupies a purple house that used to be a bakery. with restaurants lining both sides of the street, we realized right away why owners (and sisters) krista tevar and karla jennings chose the location. i am sure that groups of after-dinner guests find themselves there which allows them to be open till late (T-TH 11a-7p, F-Sat 11a-10p). love it!
their flavors change regularly (and are also seasonal) so there is always a cupcake there that we haven’t tried. they offer 2 sizes: regular and mini (the minis are the perfect size, in my opinion). it never fails that we end up getting ourselves a box when we’re there to buy for a different occasion (maybe i should just leave cheeks off of this and say it’s all me!). flavors like coconut lime, cafe au lait and lemon raspberry entice us. and did i mention that they use organic ingredients, and that they also bake vegan and gluten-free cupcakes? latest news: they now ship nationwide!
they have a big space to hold groups of people (there is even a private room that customers can reserve in advance). the decor is contemporary and comfortable. i wonder if they’ve thought about serving some good coffee there to compliment the cupcakes …
